Gran Sabana. To, in and through.

Posted on 29th March, 2012

Ahoyhoy friends and family new and old,

I am delighted to be sharing my adventure with so many great people. I left you in Puerto Ordaz with Anmar and her family. I still haven´t seen the newspaper article. The chest was improved from the day before but still a pain in the...... chest nevertheless miles had to be made so off we set. It wasn´t long before I needed a rest so I puled over by a farm entrance when a bus load of people came out, in a bus, stopped and startd waving, blowing kisses an giving me food. Need I say more about how great Venezuela is for a humble traveller. Alas I then noticed that the Scottoiler on which my numberplate was fixed was slowly crumbling:

To save the disaster of losing it I took t off and bound it with bungees to the spare tyre; Sir Humphrey´s spare tyre not mine. So we pootled on and were stopped by two large lack women wh let me take their photo:

As we rode on it got rather jungly and I was confused as no Gran Sabana, no waterfalls, nothing but jungle. I then stopped and asked a guy who told me the ran Sabana started 30km up the roadand he was right:

Gran Sabana or savana for us is the right name. Huge and open it is interspersed with fab waterfalls:

I stayed the night in the recommended hotel which did come wth a candle for warding off mozzis but not hot water or TV. As I fell asleep at 4.30pm and didn´t wake until 7am the next morning the absent TV was no loss. This long sleep left me out of sorts as I rode to the border. It took 2ours to get through it into Brazil but once there I made god time to Boa Vista.

Here I met the wonderful Guillermo and family, friends of Big Hugo, whose great hospitality had me spending the night in their house before setting out for Guyana in th morning, or so is the plan:

I´m sorry if this entry has been short and uninspired but I am very tired and am on the lowest internet connection so far. Fear not family, despite the ribs I am fairly confident I can conquer French Guyana ad promise not to kill myself trying. I miss Sam far more than I need to visit every country in South America.

TTFN,

Tigger

Hi Chris, Missing you lots, cannot wait to see you. Your time in venezuela seemed very enjoyable except for the ribs, think you will need a very long rest when you get back, maybe you and Sam can come and stay a while, Dad and I would love that. Dads getting the patio cleaned, furniture out, gazebo up and the wine is ready. You take care of yourself and I always look forward to reading the blog.

Love Mumxxx
Hi Tigger. Another day, another dollar or somesuch. I find myself spending more and more time watching your progress and looking at photos of the roads and areas ahead of you. Meeting all these lovely people was probably not in the original plan - what a bonus! I guess it's gonna get hotter and sweatier again, anytime soon. George
Well done Chris. You've done a fantastic job getting round we are all cheering you along the way, we really are. Brazil means not long to go now.
Which reminds me a guy telephoned me asking for you. Said his name was Barf or Darf. He asked if I knew about someone called Jed and becoming his apprentice? Must be a mistake. He also said May the forth will be with you, but you'll be back by then.
